Missouri Pacific 13276
a Horizontal Wood Sheathed (HWS) caboose

If you can get by Osawatomie, Kansas stop in at John Brown Park and look at the only surviving MP Horizontal Wood Sheathed caboose.   #13276 is clad in metal now, but harkens back to the days of steam in a big way.   No marking of any sort seen on this July 15, 1991 visit.

In May 2002 I returned for another look with the following photos.   On the center sill on both sides is the number 942 which should be an original number.   If so, that would call into question the MP 13279 number making this instead MP 13276 and then renumbered to 12042.   As explained in the Caboose Book, renumberings of these early cabooses is very hard to follow.   If you have a shot of this caboose when it was first set up, I'd like to hear about what number is on it.

Bill Cob visited on May 8, 2004 and sent in these photos.
If you go by there be sure to look at the interior as it is all original from what I can tell.

This caboose has since been moved downtown next to the replica depot.
